Company Overview We are a small, fast growing hospitality company operating across Portugal and the UK. Our businesses include property management, group accommodation, surf and hospitality experiences, with a growing need for strong financial systems, clear reporting and proactive financial control.
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and highly organised Financial Controller to join our team on a full time basis. This role is ideal for someone who is confident working across both Portuguese and UK company structures, enjoys solving problems and is able to build efficient financial workflows using modern tools, automation and AI.
Role Details Position: Financial Controller Start date: Immediate Contract length: Open ended Working hours: Full time Salary: €1,500 to €2,200 per month, depending on experience Food allowance: Provided but incorporated into the standard salary Languages required: Fluent English and Portuguese are essential Location - Remote & onsite in the Lagos area
Experience Required
- The successful candidate should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working as a Financial Controller or in a similar finance role.
- Hospitality industry experience is preferred, particularly in businesses involving property management, accommodation, tourism or guest services.
- Experience working with or reporting for a UK company is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities The Financial Controller will be responsible for bringing structure, clarity and consistency to the financial management of the business.
Main responsibilities include
- Liaising with our Portuguese and UK accountants
- Preparing monthly profit and loss reports
- Introducing and managing simple KPIs for our sales and property management teams
- Producing and maintaining cash flow forecasts
- Managing VAT and IVA control
- Managing SAF-T file requirements
- Supporting corporate year end processes
- Allocating expenses correctly across companies, departments and properties
- Working with banks to prepare borrowing applications
- Preparing and managing grant applications
- Managing petty cash processes and controls
- Improving financial systems, reporting processes and internal workflows
- Using modern technology, automation and AI tools to make finance processes more efficient
Administrative and Compliance Support The role will also include oversight of key administrative and compliance areas linked to the smooth running of the business.
Responsibilities include
- Supporting HR contract administration
- Payroll oversight
- Basic legal company compliance, including insurance, licensing and related company requirements
- Maintaining organised records for company, finance and compliance documents
- Helping create simple systems to ensure deadlines and compliance requirements are met
